Mr. Ali Koray OZANDAC, the representative (President) of the Turkish purchasing delegation, is visiting recommended buyers at the Canton Fair, facilitated by Topease.

The organization, known as Etkinlik-Sen, brings together 580 corporate members, focusing on event planning, wedding venue equipment, and introducing Chinese products to Turkey.

Mr. Ali told us this opportunity is invaluable for their sectors and companies, and they are committed to maximizing it to establish commercial relationships with Chinese suppliers.

How is the Turkish Market Performing?

From Turkish buyers:" In recent years, except for a few sectors like electric vehicles and new energy, many industries have seen a decline in production. As the global market shrinks, our production channels from China have also been affected.

Additionally, the quotas and extra tariffs imposed by some European countries and the U.S. on Chinese products have further complicated matters."

How Do Turkish Merchants Choose Suppliers?

They explain: "When selecting Chinese suppliers, some companies look for affordable products, while others prefer high-value, high-quality items.

However, with the current contraction in the global market, we are concerned about the negative impacts this may have on Chinese production channels.”

Turkey's Economic Environment and Consumer Trends

In recent years, Turkey has been experiencing inflation and currency devaluation, leading to a significant drop in purchasing power. Consequently, consumers are more inclined to prefer affordable products.

Regarding consumer preferences: “Different consumer groups have varying consumption perspectives; younger consumers tend to favor innovative and high-tech products.”

They mentioned that inflation in Turkey has been a longstanding issue troubling its citizens. In 2022, the inflation rate suddenly soared to 85%. Although it decreased in 2023, it reached high levels again in 2024.

Faced with the economic crisis, Erdoğan adopted an unconventional "interest rate cut" policy, which has led to severe inflation, impacting consumption and investment habits among the Turkish people.

Trade Between China and Turkey from January to September 2024
